ARLINGTON, TX (KLTV) - A pair of undefeated teams in Newton and Gunter met at AT&T Stadium in the Class 3A Division II state championship game on Thursday night. The Eagles lost in the title game in 2014, but this time they are headed back to East Texas with a trophy.
Newton took down the Tigers 40 to 16 thanks to big plays on offense and a suffocating defense. Gunter was the defending champion and came in riding a 31-game winning streak. But you can forget about that now!
Playmakers wide receiver Tamauzia Brown, running back Darwin Barlow, wide receiver Noah Williams, and QB josh Foster all found the end zone, and the Eagles turned a four point halftime lead into a rout!
Newton earns its first state title since 2005.
