Christmas tree recycling begins soon

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tyler residents will soon be able to drop off their undecorated, non-flocked natural Christmas trees after the holiday on Dec. 26.

Every year the City of Tyler Solid Waste Department and Keep Tyler Beautiful provide locations for tree recycling. This year's locations will be Golden Road Park and Fun Forest Park.

All decorations such as lights, ornaments, garland, and tinsel must be removed from the tree before dropping it off near the "Christmas Tree Recycling" sign.

The Christmas trees will either be picked up at the curb for disposal at a landfill or available for use of area fisherman to pick and sink into a nearby lake to create fish habitats. Fish eat the aquatic insects that find a home in the tree branches and also use the trees for hiding places.

Golden Road is located at the intersection of McDonald and Golden Road. Fun Forest Park is located the 900 block of North Glenwood Boulevard.
