A Longview man is arrested, after setting his own apartment on fire.
Police caught Darrell Montria Kelly, 28, on the road this morning.
They say he was beating his wife, with their 10-year-old daughter in the car, when the wife called 9-1-1.
A fire investigator tells us, the man had cut himself earlier, while breaking and slashing his home furniture with a knife, then set a pile of clothes on fire. Officials say there was no damage to the other apartments around his.
"It really could've gotten out of hand if he would have left the apartment with all the clothes on the bed still on fire," Senior Captain Jimmy Purcell, fire investigator for the Longview Fire Department, said. "If he would've left, then the people upstairs -- they were home -- then it could've gotten worse than what it was."
Kelly faces four charges: making a terroristic threat, criminal mischief, family violence, and obstructing his wife's 9-1-1 call.
