Eight Water Main Breaks In Three Days

Eight water main breaks have occurred in less than three days in Longview.

Officials say each break costs the city at least a couple of thousand dollars.

Today, crews continued fixing broken pipes underground.

They say heavy rains, after days of hot, dry weather, may have caused the leaks. The water department also attributes the problem to old pipes.

"We have a section of town that is a little bit older part of town," Dan Bogue, water distribution manager, said. "And it does give us more problem than the newer part of town. But as monies become available, we try to change them out as quickly and effectively as possible."

Crews will replace the old pipes using new and improved material.
