Red Raiders Open Practice As Defending Champs

While the Dallas Cowboys try to recover from a dissapointing season, Robert E. Lee is trying to do the exact opposite;  defend a state championship. The 2005 edition of the Red Raiders took the field this morning for their first two-a-day practice. A lot of walk through, a lot of conditioning and a lot of learning for a team with big shoes to fill. They carry with them the title defending state champions, but head coach Mike Owens isn't letting the players buy into the hype.

"We're the 2004 defending state champs all right," said Owens, "but we're doing it without the guys that were on that team, so if anybody thinks that's it's any different then that, I'm sure our players don't. They got stuff they have to do and like I told them this morning, we haven't beat anybody yet, we haven't played anybody yet. This team is brand new."

The brand new Eed Raiders open their season august 27 at home againt Florida's Chaminade-Madonna.
