Record Pumpkin Growing In Mt. Pleasant

An East Texas man hopes he has a "state record" on his hands, in the form of a "really big" pumpkin. With 20 days still left to grow, a Mt. Pleasant mans' pumpkin is at 600 pounds with a circumference of 135 inches. It was grown by 55 year old "Audie Starkey", who's been growing the gourds for 10 years. "Audie" is no stranger to growing the big gourds, he's broken the state record twice with pumpkins weighing 520 pounds and 620 pounds.

He says he's spent the last 3 months caring for his latest pumpkin, which he affectionately named "Mary." According to the Guinness book of world records, the largest pumpkin ever grown weighed 13-hundred, 37 pounds. "Starkey" hopes to one day surpass that.
