SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Smith County Sheriff's office is moving forward with a search to help identify the human remains found this weekend.
Sheriff Larry Smith says a hunter made the discovery on Saturday in a wooded area near Interstate 20 east and FM 14.
Authorities found a skull with the jaw bone missing.
Search teams plan to continue searching the area this week in hopes to find more information that could possibly help identify the remains.
"We do have some missing persons here but it being so close to interstate 20 it could be someone passing through," said Sheriff Smith. "So, number one we don't know if we have a homicide, we do know someone is dead we need to find more parts of the clothes and the bones."
The recovered remains were sent to a forensic lab in Dallas for identification.
