SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Smith County Sheriff's Office is offering a training session for ages 13 through adult.

"Terrible acts of violence continue to affect our lives and the lives of those we love. These events can happen anywhere at any time. Whether due to terrorism, work place violence, or the act of a mentally unstable person, our society continues to be the target of these attacks. Are you prepared?" Sheriff Larry R. Smith asked in a statement on Tuesday.

The training is free to the public. It is called "Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events," and teaches what happens during these kinds of events, as well as actions you can take to help you and your loved ones survive an attack.

The training will be held on Tuesday, December 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church. The address is 1607 Troup Highway in Tyler.

If you have any questions, you may call Sgt. Darrell Coslin at 903-590-2967.
