Astronauts Finish Repairs On Spacewalk

The crew of the Space Shuttle Discovery have successfully finished efforts to remove two pieces of gap fillers from the shuttle's heating tiles.

At around 8' o clock this morning,  Astronaut Stephen Robinson pulled out the last piece of the gap filler while attached to the International Space Station via a robotic arm.

The spacewalk marked the first time a repair has been made to the space shuttle while in orbit.

The technology was developed in the wake of the 2003 Columbia disaster. The Columbia shuttle disintegrated over East Texas, killing all seven crew members, as it returned from space.

Discovery is set to return to Earth on Monday.
