Nearly Finished Gymnasium Damaged By Rain

Days before the completion of its renovation, Carlisle ISD's gym has been severely damaged. The culprit: rain. The school district is located in the small town of Price, located in Rusk County, about 10 miles south of Henderson. On Friday, three inches of rain fell, causing damage that's been priced in the thousands. The electronic scoreboards are also damaged, and the floor will have to be replaced, along with the carpets in the boys' and girls' locker rooms. The gym was supposed to be ready in time for a volleyball game next week Tuesday. "We are not putting kids in an unsafe environment. We're going to make sure it's safe before we put them back in there. We are trying to use this facility for practice now, but as far as ready for use, there's no way," says Carlisle ISD Superintendent Mike Payne. Games for next week have been moved to the opponents' site. The school is guessing it could take several weeks to months to fix the damages.
