West Nile Confirmed In Gregg County

Health officials in Gregg county confirm their first case of west Nile virus after a dead bird is found. The Environmental Health Department says a dead blue jay was found in a residential area in northwest Longview on Thursday. The bird tested positive for west Nile. Health department workers have begun an intensive mosquito-control spraying program.

The program will cover the entire city and will be done during the pre-dawn and sunset hours. Residents are advised to eliminate any standing water, and wear long sleeves and pants during daylight hours. The spraying program is expected to continue through the summer.
