Vesuvius Strike Continues

Saturday was day six for striking union workers of Vesuvius USA.

Now, those on strike are gaining outside support. Workers for Trane, Carrier and Tyler Pipe are walking with Vesuvius strikers to boost morale.

They are also providing things like food and water. One hundred Vesuvius workers have been on strike since Monday, picketing around the clock.

The union was unable to reach a contract agreement on proposed wages and benefits. Union negotiators said they are thankful for any support and said talks with the company have resumed.

"They're supporting us and we've had a few talks and hopefully soon we'll be back at the table with the company and try to resolve the situation," said Rex Cicero of Local 58 Steelworkers of America.

Early this week, Vesuvius representatives issued a statement saying the company made every reasonable effort to resolve differences over labor contract terms.

Vesuvius has remained open for business during this dispute.
