Emotional Goodbye For Smith County Crime Victims Director

After 10 years of service to crime victims in Smith County, Betty Whitten was given an emotional farewell this afternoon. Betty was surrounded by friends and colleagues at her retirement party at the Smith County Courthouse.
She was presented a U.S. flag that flew over the courthouse and a Texas flag that flew over the State Capitol in Austin. Today was a chance for all who admire her to tell her "thanks" and they appreciate her service. "Many, many times in jury trials I can look across the courtroom during arguments and see Betty's arms around family members who had lost a loved one," says Betty's former boss Judge Jack Skeen. "I have had the most wonderful support from the people in Smith County and I've enjoyed it. It's been my pleasure to serve the victims," says Betty. Betty plans on running her shop, Daisy's, in Bergfeld Center.
