Local Boy Scouts O.K. Following National Jamboree Tragedy

Eighty-one East Texas Boy Scouts are okay and accounted for in Bowling Green, Virgnia. But yesterday's tragedy that killed four scout leaders from other states, has created an emotional start to this year's National Jamboree.

A tent pole touching a power line appears to have electrocuted the 4 scout leaders. Three of the dead are from Alaska, the fourth is from Ohio. Three other people were injured.

Tyler Troop Leader, Jim Cousineau talked to us by phone today about how he broke the news to his boys. "We explained it to the boys. We had a moment of silence in memory of the leaders who were lost, and cautioned the guys about being careful about a number of things as they finish out the remainder of their visit."

Jim says flags at the campsite have been lowered to half staff. A memorial service will be held tomorrow. President Bush is expected to attend.
