Once-Extinct Woodpecker, Caught By East Texan On Tape?

A bird believed to have been extinct until recently might have been spotted right here in East Texas. Bob Southard, who lives east of Hallsville, videotaped on his property what he thinks is an Ivory-Billed Woodpecker.

The bird was spotted in Arkansas not too long ago -- more than 60 years after the last confirmed sighting of the species in the U.S..  For Bob, the possible sighting of the bird was quite exciting. "If in fact it really is the Ivory Bill, then you can see the camera shaking because I was really nervous. My heart was pounding like the time I caught a 10 lb. bass," he says.

The 53-year-old says the bird looked to measure about a foot and a half..
