James Doohan, "Star Trek's' Scotty, Dies

A sad day for science fiction fans. James Doohan, the chief engineer of Starship Enterprise in the original "Star Trek" TV series and motion pictures has died. A longtime friends says the actor died of pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease. Doohan was 85.

Doohan was born in Canada, but was a master at dialects. When he took the part in "Star Trek" he told producers he wanted his character to be Scottish. Fans probably remember him most for responding to the phrase, "Beam me up Scotty!"
