Energy Producers Celebrate Anniversary Of Oil Discovery

The discovery 75 years ago of the East Texas Oil Field shaped the land we call home forever.

Today, a celebration honoring the past, looked toward a bright future.

The Texas Alliance Of Energy Producers are honoring the legacy of those involved in the drilling of Daisy Bradford #3. It's the well that started East Texas down the path of dominance in the oil and gas industry.

They met in Tyler today to begin preparations for a celebration of history. October marks the 75th anniversary.

Alex Mills, TAEP President: "It's been a tough 20-plus years, but now, things have turned around and the enthusiasm of the people who are celebrating this oil discovery 75 years ago is contagious.

Contagious because prices for oil are several times what they were just a decade ago. Coming up on October 3, the diamond jubilee of the East Texas Oil Field with tours, and events at the East Texas Oil Museum in Kilgore. While the wells were drilled long ago, there's now renewed optimism in the local petroleum community.
