Police Respond To Soccer Brawl Complaint

Tyler police respond to an angry mother who was at a soccer game that turned violent.

The brawl happened yesterday afternoon at Lindsey Park. It was during a championship soccer match between two local Hispanic men's teams.

Delores Vargas says police were first called out to the field, when people started throwing beer bottles and harassing each other. When police arrived, they stopped, so the officers left.

Today, Tyler police explained why they left.

"We had dispatch call the person back, which was the president of the league," Officer Don Martin said. "And he stated that there wasn't any problems. He thought there might have been a fight and that there wasn't and that they were no longer needed. So the officers were out there for about 15 minutes and they observed no fights at that time."

Police say at least five people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Once investigators review a home video tape of the fight, they will likely file charges of aggravated assault and reckless driving.
