A New Era Set To Begin For SFA Athletics

There are some big shoes to fill at Stephen F. Austin.  Athletic Director, Steve McCarty will officially retire on August 31. McCarty successfully led the Lumberjacks athletic department for 21 years. On September 1, Robert Hill will take over the reigns. The SFA Board of Regents approved Hills promotion to athletic director. Hill and McCarty have similarities; both are dedicated to SFA.  Hill has been associated with SFA for four decades, as a student, the voice of Lumberjacks sports, and an athletics staff member. The challenge now, is continuing McCarty's success.

"Obviously, we want to get back into the NCAA [Division] I-AA playofss," Hill said. "That's very important to us. We want our men's basketball team to get into march madness. We've never been to the tournament before and it's time to get there. And also, we'd like to get our women's basketball team up and going again and contending in the conference."

Hill added that he wants to maintain the success of other SFA sports like volleyball and soccer and to create successful foundations for the new programs of baseball and equestrian.

That has everything to do with the year Dak had and more importantly the way that Dak is app...More >>
