We first introduced you to Kaitlynne in October of 2001. At the age of 5, she was placed in foster care. In December of 2002, we did another story on her when no local family came forward willing to adopt Kaitlynne, and yet again in June of 2003. In this report, we are happy to tell you, after almost five years, her wait for the Gift of Love is finally over.
On a cool afternoon in East Texas Judge Scott McDowell calls the hearing into session, "Court will call 800094 in the interest of a child." At 10 years old, Kaitlynne is about to start her life over. Judge McDowell says, "You're asking the court that upon granting this adoption order that this child's name be changed to Katie?" Greg and Gina answer, "Yes!"
But it's more than just a name change that makes this day so special for this young girl. "Because I now have a family that loves me and they wanted to adopt me and that makes me happy," says Katie with a sweet voice.
Greg and Gina have one biological son. They were unable to have any more children on their own, but that didn't stop them from having a big family. Katie is now their fourth child, three of them adopted. Greg says, "A lot of them need a home. They need the love and care of people like you and me. It has changed me a lot. It made me look at family with a whole different perspective." Gina says, "It fills their heart. When you fill a child's heart you fill your own."
Greg and Gina know that raising children comes with it's challenges. "We take them day by day and, not only that, the good Lord's with us. He's there to guide us and that's what I believe in," says Gina.
Katie looks at her new parents and says, "I think that they're good people. I think that they're loving. They love me and I love them back. That's what I like about them."
From the first day Katie came into their lives, they knew she was meant to be a part of their family. "She's got a good heart. She's got a big heart and she's just a good kid. She really is. I love her very much," says Gina.
Are they done adding to their family? Greg looks at Gina and with a big smile asks, "I don't know are we?"
"They're a super couple who have dedicated their lives to helping kids who have had a difficult start," says David Cole their attorney.
This East Texas couple always seem to have room, and love, for one more child. Sitting next to her new family Katie says, "I love you mommy. I love you daddy."
And for Katie, it's finally the forever family she's always wanted, and deserved.
