UT-Tyler Baseball Player Signs Pro Contract

Tony Harvot signed a professional baseball contract with the Mesa Miners of the Golden Baseball League, making him the first baseball player from The University of Texas at Tyler to ink with a pro organization.

Harvot, a right handed pitcher from Flower Mound, Texas (Marcus HS), was 6-0 this season for the Patriots. He held down a 3.43 ERA in 44.2 innings pitched.

"We are proud of Tony and thankful for the opportunity we had to coach him at UT Tyler," said head coach James Vilade. "Our pitching coach, Jack Price, did a great job working with Tony and I know that his record of 11-2 over the past two seasons is a direct result of his hard work."

Continued Vilade, "I know that many baseball players have the goal of playing at the professional level and it's great to see Tony accomplish that goal and get his chance."

The Golden Baseball League is an independent professional baseball league based in California and Arizona. In addition to Mesa, the league boasts team in Yuma, Surprise and Samurai, Arizona as well as San Diego, Long Beach, Chico and Fullerton, California.
