Jacksonville Unveils New Field House

They were bursting at the seems in the old field house, having gotten 45 years out of it, with no air conditioning and just one phone line.  Now, Jacksonville High School is set to burst into an new era. The school unveiled it's brand, spanking new 16,500 square foot field house tonight. The state-of-the-art building boasts a 4,000 square foot weight room, a 15,000 square foot training room, a massive locker room, a theater room and much more.  It's a building that was long overdue.

"This is really something that we're really, really proud of," said Jacksonville Superintendent Stuart Bird. "We hope this is the first step in a comprehensive building program for the district, and it's something that our kids will really be proud of."

"We've kind of been behind as far as facilities,"said head football coach and athletic director Randy Copeland, "and this is going to help bring us up and maybe above and past some of them and it will give our kids an added chance to compete."

Expect the weight room to be packed Wednesday. It opens up to the athletes at 7:30 for the first time.
