BOWIE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - At approximately 11:54 p.m., on Sunday, Bowie County deputies responded to the call of a shooting on the 900 block of County Road 4106 in DeKalb.
According to a release from the Bowie County Sheriff's Office, when deputies arrived at the scene, they spoke with Nicholas Paul. Paul informed that his best friend, Rodney Clay Peters, had been acting "crazy" and carried a riffle with him.
Peters entered Paul's room and pointed the rifle at him. As self-defense, Paul grabbed the handgun that was next to his bed and fired at Peters. Peters then fell to the floor and Paul performed CPR until Life Net personnel arrived.
Authorities say Peters did not survive the gunshot wound, and that evidence collected at the scene proved Paul's story.
At this time the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
