TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Tyler Fire Department said there is no threat to the city's water system after a diesel tank ruptured Friday afternoon

It happened in the 17-hundred block of Erwin Street after a car ran a stop sign and crashed into an 18 wheeler. Ed Williamson said the sign is often overlooked by drivers on Erwin Street."

"That used to be a yield sign for many many years. People got used to just driving through there. You can stand there and you can still see people drive through that stop sign," Williamson said.

Williamson works just a few feet away from the intersection at Lew's welding.

"We don't have many accidents but we have a lot of close calls because of people running that stop sign," Williamson said.

Friday afternoon he heard the aftermath of a car failing to stop at the sign.

"I was inside the shop here and I heard some tires screeching and then we heard a bad crash," Williamson said.

Fire officials said the car hit an 18-wheeler and one of the saddle tanks ruptured.

"We saw the car spun around and the tanker we could see was leaking real bad," Williamson said.

The Tyler Fire Department brought in their hazmat team to contain 90 gallons of diesel.

The team worked with the city’s street department and they were able to keep the chemical out of from storm sewers nearby.

Police said no one was injured in the crash. The driver that collided with the 18-wheeler was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign.
