Better East Texas: Graduates who put in hard work will receive rewards

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Graduation time, the time of year when we start seeing the telltale signs that change is coming for thousands of young people in our communities.

Whether the kids are graduating from high school or college,  it is a monumental change in their lives.  It is also a great opportunity.

Most degrees arm you with a certain set of skills but education cannot stop there.  As our country hopefully starts bringing back manufacturing and those jobs that come with it, there is already an increased demand for skilled employees ready to fill these numerous trade jobs.

For years, there was a push in America to turn out computer skill workers, but now there is a huge need for all types of hands-on workers like welders, dental hygienists and occupational and physical therapists. These are top paying positions that typically don’t require a 4-year degree.  However, it doesn’t mean you don’t have to work to acquire the skills for these.  There is hard work involved.

So, whether you are a soon-to-be graduate, or are just looking for a rewarding career through some re-training, take a little time and do some research.  America has changed, and the job market continues to change, but one constant is that those that put in the hard work will receive the rewards.

Our country was built on hard work, not an entitlement program or a hand out – it was built and continues to grow on hard work.  Keep the economic engine going and go for the job that will impact you and our community and that will make for a Better East Texas.
