EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Mark your Calendars! May has some interesting National Food holidays.
Did you know that May is National Gazpacho Aficionado Month? For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a spanish-style soup made from tomatoes and other vegetables and spices. It's also fitting that May is National Salsa Month, for those of you who want to embrace Cinco de Mayo all month long.
Have you ever wondered how special observance days are determined? According to The nibble, a food magazine: The president of the United States has the authority to declare a commemorative event or day by proclamation. Fewer than 150 are granted in an average year across all categories. Petitions are introduced by constituents, trade associations or public relations firms to honor industries, events, professions, hobbies, and yes ... even food.
If you're not feeling the spice this month maybe you're feeling a little sweeter? This month you can sink your teeth into National chocolate parfait day, National truffles day, National chocolate custard day, or National chocolate chip day.
