SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Women's Fund of Smith County has announced that it will host its fourth annual Mother's Day luncheon on Thursday, May 11.

The luncheon will be held at Willow Brook Country Club at 11:30 a.m.

The  release from the organization said that Presenting Sponsor for the luncheon is Mary Irwin. Additional sponsors include Austin Bank and Merrill Lynch LMT Wealth Management Group. Proceeds from the event benefit the mission of the Women’s Fund and its outreach to women and children in Smith County.
The 200 guests in attendance, event organizers say, will hear inspiring stories from mothers and daughters who are members of the nonprofit organization which seeks to leverage the philanthropic capacity of women as a catalyst for positive change. A highlight of the event will be personal testimonies from clients of Goodwill Industries of East Texas who have been impacted through “A Second Chance for Her,” a program funded by the Women’s Fund.
“The women who benefited from the grant we made to Goodwill is just one example of what we can accomplish when we give together. By benefiting women, we make a difference in the lives of many children,” said Dawn Franks, President of Your Philanthropy and one of this year’s luncheon chairs along with Debby Gunter, Cathy Krafve and Ellen Trant.
Goodwill is one of the 24 agencies the Women’s Fund has supported since the organization began giving grants in 2009. The Women’s Fund of Smith County was created in 2007 and is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year and the milestone of surpassing $1 million in cumulative grants awarded.
Patty Steelman, 2017 Board Chair, noted, “The Women’s Fund seeks to educate women about community needs, and to participate in philanthropy through a circle of collaborative giving and grant making. There is a circle of caring in all our lives, beginning with our mothers and other inspiring women, making Mother’s Day week a perfect time to celebrate this connection.”

“As mothers, daughters, sisters and friends, we all have been nurtured to find our place in this world,” continued Kristen Seeber, Women’s Fund President. “This luncheon is an opportunity to cherish and thank the important women in our lives who have modeled how to give from the heart.”

The Women’s Fund of Smith County welcomes new members, as well as sponsors and contributors, throughout the year. For more information, visit www.womensfundsc.org or call 903-509-1771.
