Evacuees From Gas Well Blowout Are Still Unable To Return Home

Evacuees forced out of their homes Monday, are still not able to return. Authorities evacuated about 50 to 75 people when a gas well blew on Farm to Market Roads 349 and 2276 in Gregg County.

Tuesday, equipment was brought in to cap the well. It had been spewing water. Experts say that's usually followed by a gas explosion. The situation has been stabilized, but Geo Vest, the company that owns the well, wants to completely disable it before allowing evacuees to return home.

Most of the evacuees are staying at a hotel at the expense of Geo Vest. No word yet on what caused the blowout.
