Tyler police have released surveillance video of a store clerk being held at gunpoint during a robbery.

This happened at the Family Dollar located in the 4300 block of Troup Highway in Tyler.

Police said the men got away with about $140. One of the suspects is described as short, thin build. The other suspect is described as tall and thin build.

Police said the two suspects are still at large. The video from inside the store shows one masked man running up and down the store aisles.

"He was looking for customers and actually grabs to phones from two different customers and throws them on the counter so they can't call 911," said Tyler Police Spokesperson, Andy Erbaugh.

The video shows another demanding money from the store's clerk.

"He gets money from the cash register, they attempt to get into the safe, the safe is locked so they can't get into the safe," Erbaugh said.

Erbaugh said the clerk saw the men coming and set a timer to the store's safe. A good practice for any business.

"Which is a time release safe that they can't get in. So yes people come and rob them but they don't often get very much money," Erbaugh said.

Erbaugh said these types of crimes cycle in waves and right now they are seeing more activity in dollar stores.

"You have a high amount of cash flow at the dollar stores and usually no security," Erbaugh said.

He said most of these crimes are not related and they don't have any suspects at this time. Police said if you're ever in a situation like this one there is a strategy to stay safe.

"Don't intervene, comply. We've seen consistently that compliance means nobody gets hurt," Erbaugh said.

No one was injured during the robbery.

If you have any information about this crime please contact Tyler Police Department or call Tyler Smith County Crime Stoppers.
