Marshall Fights Strip Club Opening

Marshall city leaders are considering options to keep a sexually oriented business from opening in their area. Harrison commissioners say a business group has expressed interest in putting a strip club in the Marshall area. City leaders think that would send a terrible message about the city.

"We're talking 25,000 people with a strip club. You know what I mean? That's quite a stigma when you're asking G.M. or another company to move in, if we can't take care of our own house at this small level, who knows what could develop?" says commissioner Bryan Partee.

The proposed strip club would be at Highway 43 at I-20. That's less than half a mile from a church. That would be allowed, under the current city ordinance which prevents sexually oriented businesses from being within 1,000 feet of schools, churches, homes, and hospitals.

The new ordinance would increase that to 3,000 feet. The ordinance may come up at the next commissioners meeting.
