ARP, TX (KLTV) - Even though Jason Romano admits that running his spa/retreat is a lot of work, he also says that High Hill Farm is a dream come true for him and his wife Sharon.
"We began this dream by assembling a group of friends saying I know you may think we're crazy, but we're going to move everything we have and have done to Arp in East Texas," said Romano.
The Romanos discovered East Texas when they attended a horse competition their daughter was involved in. From there it was looking for just the right property on which to build their dream.
Jason, a long-time builder and native of New Orleans, met Sharon in Dallas. Together the couple has brought touches of Dallas and New Orleans, along with their favorite travel experiences in Florida, Italy, and France to their 75 acre, intimate vacation retreat in East Texas.
"We both feel like this is the prettiest part of Texas, it's green, it's got the piney woods, it's scenic and hilly and you see every wonderful thing about East Texas in this part of the state," said Romano.
Soon after High Hill Farm opened in 2015, it was discovered by Texas Monthly and named one of the 10 Best New Places to Stay in Texas, in its May 2016 edition.
Much of the charm and laid back atmosphere that attracted Texas Monthly as well as visitors from as far away as England, is in the architecture of the farm.
Jason has designed the High Hill's main building and cottages to make the most of the East Texas environment.
"White walls, polished concrete, lots of glass, it's about bringing the outside into the building," said Romano.
The High Hill Farm Restaurant is opened to the public Friday and Saturday nights.
Local wines and produce, along with the Farm's herbs and vegetables are used by the chef to create the fresh cuisine the restaurant is becoming famous for.
As for the Romano family, they no longer feel the urge to travel since they've brought their favorite experiences into their own retreat, High Hill Farm.
High Hill Farm, located between Arp and Overton in East Texas, is the fulfillment of a longtime dream for Jason and Sharon Romano.
