LUBBOCK, TX (KLTV) -

The family of a Winona man who became trapped in an excavator in Lubbock, said he has been released from ICU on Monday.

On Wednesday, Jeremy Pekarski, was working at a private owned waste field for C & D Waste Company, when the arm of the excavator he was operating pinned him to the side of the cab.

According to family members, he was trapped for more than 45 minutes and it took New Deal Volunteer Fire Department firefighters eight minutes to pull him out.

Pekarski suffered fractured and broken bones in his face and right arm.

The family said doctors predict at least 6 months of physical therapy, along with speech therapy.

Pekarski is a Winona High School graduate.

He and his fiancé, who are expecting a third child, live in Lubbock.

“Jeremy is lucky to be alive, from the images of what happened and how easily it would have been for his entire head to have been crushed it is nothing short of a miracle that he is even still with us today,” said Stephanie Francis, sister of Pekarski.

Pekarski’s family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with the medical expenses.
