KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

One suspect is in custody and an East Texas apartment complex is secure, after a brief police standoff.

Kilgore police were called in reference to an armed subject at the Lakewood Manor apartments in the 33-hundred block of Danville drive around 5:16
Sunday evening.

An assault victim told police he had been involved in an argument with 32-year-old Daniel Aaron Nutt, who had threatened to kill him.

The victim added Nutts' apartment contained numerous handguns and long guns.

Police surrounded the area, at first asking residents to shelter in place, then evacuating people for their safety.

Nutt at first refused to exit the apartment but later was convinced to give himself up.

For those in the area when police arrived, it was frightening to think what could have happened.

"Police officers with huge guns and stuff and they did what they're supposed to do, but I mean I never imagined or went through anything like that
in my life. They came up and said, grabbed and said you need to get out right now.

The first thing that I thought of was my babies. Oh my gosh we have to get out right now," said evacuated visitor Christie Dickens.

Nutt was charged with terroristic threat family violence and resisting arrest.

He was subsequently booked into the Kilgore municipal jail.
