Special Session Scheduled For School Finance

It's back to the drawing board for the Texas legislature.
Saturday, Governor Rick Perry vetoed the $35 billion public education budget and called lawmakers back for a special session on school finance.
The vetoed budget directly affects the upcoming school year. East Texas Senator Kevin Eltife said after two years of wrestling over the issue, some agreement has to be reached with Perry and his staff.
"Leadership in this state has to come to an agreement otherwise we are wasting tax payers money being back in session," Eltife said. "We need some sensible agreement among leadership so that we can go down there and do our work and come up with something that's good for teachers, students and tax payers."
Eltife said without state funding, it will be difficult to educate the more than four million Texas students when the school year begins in August. The special session begins Tuesday.
