EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - The Republicans in congress have been discussing the repeal of Obamacare for years and the time is upon them to deliver on that promise.
You would think that with a Republican White House and Republican Congress that this would be a relatively easy process but it is not. First all, and the president has even acknowledged this – it is a very complicated process to try to recreate the rules for an industry that affects every American. Truth be told it is a more difficult process than President Trump expected.
The next challenge is that the Congressional Republicans have multiple versions of the plan they'd like to see approved. Many of them ran for re-election with some specific battle points. This, honestly is to be expected and that is why we have a negotiating process for this type of legislation – you work it out.
Finally, and perhaps the biggest hurdle is that both the President and Congress feel they have to make the negotiations a big public show – as if to message that securing the spotlight is more important than truly coming up with an option for the Affordable Care Act. They control the entire legislative branch – go behind closed doors and work it out.
The only thing created by some kind of public fight is a forum for protests involving all sides which ultimately will not change any side. If they can't pull this off in a legislative year when all the planets are lined up for them, then they don't deserve to steer the country. Work it out – behind closed doors – and that will make for a Better East Texas.
