Rangers Investigate Gregg County Murder

A man is found brutally beaten to death in East Texas, and Texas Rangers are investigating crime scenes spread over two counties.   Investigators say it looks as though the victim was killed in one location, then his body dumped in a second location in Harrison County. The discovery was made Sunday morning in a remote area southeast of I-20 and Eastman Road, just southeast of Longview.

Investigators believe the man was beaten to death at his home off Pleasant Green road just east of Lakeport. Then officers tell us his body was dumped by his killer in Harrison County. After questioning neighbors and witnesses, a suspect has been placed in custody, no formal charges have been made yet.   Investigators are now trying to come up with a motive.

"Anytime you have a death particularly a violent death like this its a tragedy a tragedy for the families but we're going to do everything we can.  The information that we've released is still preliminary but we do have a diseased victim and a suspect in custody.  We're still trying to get all the pieces of the puzzle put together," said Gregg County sheriff Maxey Cerliano.

The mans body has been sent to Dallas for autopsy. His identity is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
