Captioned Films Offered For The First Time In East Texas

Coming for the first time to a theater near you.  The deaf and hearing impaired will now be able to enjoy a current movie at a Tyler theater.  Starting Saturday, June 11, one screen every other weekend at the Carmike 14 theater will include closed captioning.

A group of concerned citizens got together to make it all possible. Now, many who've been unable to enjoy a movie in a theater, have the chance.

"I've been trying to convince movies in Tyler to include captions for 10 years," said Daphne Smith. "Well now I'm probably going to go broke going to the movies."

"It's just real special because I don't have much of a social life beside my church and friends," said Betty Vandertulip, "and this will give me something to do."

The captioned movie kick-off is Saturday night at 7:15 p.m at the Carmike 14 theater in Tyler. The featured film, "Mother in Law."

Tickets are $7.50. There will also be two screenings on Sunday.
