Carthage, Harleton Final Four Schedules Announced

For two East Texas baseball teams, they don't get to enjoy the summer yet.

And they wouldn't have it any other way.

That's because those two teams won their regions this weekend, and they'll spend the next week in the state capital, playing in their final four.

In Class 3A, where the Carthage Bulldogs are going again. They gutted out a tough, come from behind three game series against Lindale to earn their fourth berth in the state tournament in the last sixteen years. Carthage has missed the playoffs just twice in that span.

The state tournament is a four-team, single elimination tournament. The Bulldogs first round opponent will be Bridge City. They play Wednesday at three in the afternoon, at Disch-Falk field in Austin. If they win, the state championship will be Thursday at noon.

Just like last year, the 1A regional final was a district rematch. The Harleton Wildcats defeated district rival Union Hill in a one-game playoff yesterday to earn their trip to Austin. All three games between these two teams were one-run affairs. Harleton is 30 and 2 on the season, and they will go to Austin for the second time in their history, the last time was before these Wildcats were born, back in 1981.

They'll play Valley Mills in the first round game, Wednesday in the first game at ten. They are playing in Round Rock, at the Dell Diamond. If they win, they'll play Thursday at one for the state championship.

Harleton, by the way, didn't even make the playoffs last season. Now, they're two wins away from their first state championship.
