For more than 30 years Daryl Sprout has entertained with...snakes. And, you can catch his show on January 28 at Eagle Fest in Rains County.
"I am the world's only stand-up comic snake handling magician," Sprout said in a previous interview with KLTV. "I am the world's only prestidigitating herpetological humorist."
He also knows a lot of...big words. But it's not big words that make kids scream. It is one, or several, of the snakes.
"To an 8-year-old, I'm a rock star. But it is not as easy as it looks. Their parents are often at the back, cringing. They're only here because their kids dragged them. I specialize in The Truly Petrified, and usually the ones that are cringing have laughed enough and they've seen that what they were laughing at was the very things they were afraid of... that by the end, they're saying, 'Well, maybe it's not so scary after all.' Lots of times they amaze themselves after the show by touching or even holding one of my animals for a keepsake photo."
So, Sprout is a kind of doctor who cures fear with laughter, and a show like his has got to have a grand finale. It's a screamer, but like all of Daryl's shows, it turns out to be funny.
Sprout will perform at Eagle Fest at 3 p.m. at Rains High School.
