Lindale Has Giant Obstacle In Way Of State

Forgive the Lindale baseball team if they are tired of hearing themselves referred to as David preparing to face Goliath, but, in a way, that's exactly what they are about to do. They open a regional final series against number one ranked Carthage Friday. Of course, when you play nearly 40 games against some of the top competition in the state, taking on another powerhouse doesn't seem very daunting, even if their first ever berth in the state tournament is on the line.

"We didn't have a week where we didn't play against some pretty decent pitching," said head coach Robbie Surratt. "Our kids aren't afraid to go up against somebody like the two kids from Carthage."

"They have the depth in pitching," said right fielder Aaron Neely, "but we just got to hit the ball. Sit back and take it opposite field."

"It's exciting," said left fielder Brook Johnson. "I'm really looking forward to going [to state]. I'm really looking forward to this game coming up, and I know we can do it."

Lindale's series with Carthage begins Friday night at 7:00 at Driller Park in Kilgore.
