Special Needs Students Preparing For Crystal Ball

From top hats and bow ties to long flowing gowns.  Some Tyler students prepared to be the belles and beaus of the ball.

Students tried out the fancy duds in preps for this week's "Crystal Ball," a prom for special needs students.  The girls picked out their attire and accessories from "Brides and Belles" while the boys were fitted with tuxes from "Rudy's Men's and Women's Wear."

For some of the students this will be their first formal event. Organizers said the student's excitement has been building for weeks.

"They started months ago," said Felicia Dockison with the Community Workforce of Texas, a sponsor of the Crystal Ball. "(They were) wanting to go shopping, wanting to pick out that special gown and we did that. So, everybody's ready.

This is the fourth year for the Crystal Ball.

The big dance is set for Friday, June 3, at Harvey Convention Hall in Tyler at 7 p.m.. More than 500 people are expected to attend, including 300 special needs students from across East Texas.
