Severe Weather Does Not Deter Boaters

Even though the weather has not been perfect this weekend, there were still a lot of people out on the lakes around East Texas.

And Game Warden Chris Green, of Texas Parks and Wildlife, was one of them, stopping to check if boaters had life jackets and were taking safety precautions.

The rain and stormy weather will likely continue tomorrow, so if you still decide to hit the lakes, the game warden advises you to keep an eye out for shelter nearby.

"Most people around these lakes, they have boat houses, little places you can get, coves. You know, hit the bank somewhere," he said. "It's safer, especially if there's lightning. A lot of these people won't mind if you get near their boat house and try to weather the storm, if you can't get back to the boat ramp where you put in."

And don't forget to have a life jacket for everyone in the boat.
