Hallsville Man Is A Star Wars Stormtrooper

Millions of fans worldwide have absorbed themselves in the phenomenon that is Star Wars, but few can rival a Hallsville man who has spent a large part of his income to make Star Wars an integral part of his everyday life. His Hallsville home is loaded with every conceivable star wars collectible, but 38-year-old college computer science instructor Phil Yellott didn't stop there.  He's an active participant, a member of the 501st imperial Stormtroopers Legion.

"Just a matter of getting a costume and going out and wearing it , that's the hard part actually putting it on and wearing it in public," Phil says.

Members of the non-profit organization from a four state area make hundreds of appearances each year, raising money for charity and promoting the Empire. He sports a complete Stormtroopers uniform and many rare collectibles signed by David Prowse, the man who plays Darth Vader in Star Wars . He makes no money for his appearances, just doing it for fun.

"Its a lot of fun wearing the costumes and its a whole lot less expensive than a bass boat," he says.

But it can be expensive, he says his Darth Vader uniform costs as much as a nice used car. His biggest thrill comes from being Vader, and the reaction he gets from being the ultimate bad guy.

"The funniest thing is I'm in my Vader costume and I'll see children, I'll slowly walk up to them and raise my hand , sometimes they'll put their hand out sometimes they'll scream bloody murder," says Yellott.

Phil hopes his devotion to the phenomenon will spawn a new generation of fans.

"When I walk around the corner and somebody sees me in costume and their eyes light up that's what we do it for," he says.

If you would like to join Phil, and be a member of the Stormtroopers Legion, all that is required is an accurate Star Wars uniform. To sign up, go back to the home page and click on the "Know More On 7" link. Look for the Stormtroopers Legion link.
