Grievance Denied: Demoted Campus Officer Weighs Options For Future

The controversy over automatic weapons in the Chapel Hill School District continues.

The school board has voted to reject a grievance from a demoted campus officer.

Steve Dunklin has been the district's lone police officer for most of the last decade. As you may recall, two automatic weapons were purchased last year by the district, and Dunklin says he helped to evaluate their use.

But community outrage to the weapons ended in the demotion of both Dunklin and District Director of Operations Jimmy Cunningham.

Now that his grievance has been denied, Dunklin says he'll be weighing his options for the future. That includes possibly leaving the school district.
