EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

Steven Terner Mnuchin is expected to be named Treasury Secretary as soon as Wednesday, sources told The New York Times Tuesday. Mnuchin is a former Goldman Sachs executive and Trump’s campaign finance chairman.

There has been speculation that Jeb Hensarling was reportedly on the president-elect's shortlist for a cabinet role, and the Wall Street Journal published an article about the Trump Transition team considering the Naples, Texas native for Treasury Secretary.

Hensarling has previously brushed off those reports, saying that although he has had conversations with the transition team, he' is committed to representing the Fifth District of Texas.

Hensarling was re-elected on Nov. 8 for another term representing District 5, which runs from Dallas to East Texas. He is also the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.

On Wednesday, Congressman Jeb Hensarling released a statement on Mnuchin's nomination.

“It was a distinct honor to be considered by President-elect Trump to serve in his cabinet.  He has a bold, ambitious agenda to grow our economy, and I look forward to working with the President-elect and his cabinet in my capacity as Chairman of the Financial Services Committee to advance policies that will help all Americans raise their standard of living and advance the cause of a better, stronger, more prosperous America.”
