Afternoon news minute: Thunderstorm asthma?

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

Good afternoon East Texas. Hope you are enjoying the nice weather today. Things are about to change and get much cooler in the next few days.

Here are some stories we've been working on today for you to check out:

1. Strange happenings in Australia. More than a week after a rare condition known as thunderstorm asthma struck Melbourne the death toll has risen to eight with one other person on life support.

2. A Tyler police officer was injured after being hit by another vehicle while working a wreck on Tuesday afternoon. The officer and the drive of the vehicle who hit the officer's cruiser were both transported to the hospital.

3. Around 7:30 a.m., Highway Patrol troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 64 E. just inside the Rusk County Line near Turnertown. The driver of a pickup truck and a child who was a passenger in that truck both died at the scene.

4. Showers and a few isolated thundershowers will remain in the forecast for the southern portions of East Texas as a cold front continues to push through East Texas. Skies are likely to clear out overnight and sunshine is forecast for a few days...then the weekend!     1 dead, 1 injured in Tyler wreck

    From the Tyler Police Department On Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 1:16 a.m., Tyler Police responded to the 8300 block of Paluxy Drive on a head-on collision. Upon arrival by EMS and Tyler Fire it was determined that that one driver was deceased and the other driver was pinned in. Accident investigators said that a 2014 GMC Sierra driven by Dakota Payne, W/M, age 27, of Diana, Texas was traveling northbound on Paluxy and drove into the southbound lane striking a 2000 GMC Yukon head-on....

    Longview Fire Department responds to residential fire

    The Longview Fire Department responded to a residential fire on the corner of Alpine Road and Bolivar Street in Longview. Five fire engines responded. Witnesses stated that flames were appearing out of the house. The fire is under control but is not completely out yet.
