Students Send Messages Of Inspiration To Japan

Messages of peace and hope took weeks to prepare by some Bullard Middle school students.  Now, they want to send them overseas. More than 30 6th grade students have made 1,000 paper cranes to deliver to Hiroshima, Japan.

They were moved by the story of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes read to them by their social studies teacher, Melinda Wilson. In the story, a little girl living in Hiroshima in 1945 survives the atomic bomb, but later dies of leukemia from the radiation. Before her death, Sadako wanted to make 1,000 cranes for peace. She only made 644.

The students now want to deliver their cranes to the monument of Sadako in Hiroshima. They're going to be mailed tomorrow.
