Road To Country Music Stardom Begins With Competition

Wednesday night, one lucky and talented East Texas singer takes their first step toward superstardom.

A dozen folks are performed at Rick's On The Square in Downtown Tyler in the Texas Country Star competition.

It will all culminate in September with the statewide winner receiving a recording contract and music video. The competition is part of Bob Phillips' Texas Country Reporter, and he says the turnout from East Texas was overwhelming.

"We had so [many contestants] that we filled up the venue here. It's the largest venue of the seven that we're doing all over the state. And, we had to move some over to Austin last night and Beaumont tomorrow night."

15 year old Katey Wallace from Lindale is on her way to compete in the final competition of Texas Country Star.  There will be a televised program later this summer, culminating in the announcement of the winner on Sept. 17 at the Texas Country Reporter festival in Waxahachie.
