Brook Hill Opens Football Practice

Football is in the air in East Texas this spring, especially in an unlikely place. Brook Hill school began spring workouts for the first time in school history. The pads were popping on campus today with about 25 kids taking part in practice. New head coach Paul Johnston has the task of turning this group, many of whom are playing football for the first time, into a team by the fall. It's a long road, but one the former Canton high school assistant and his players are ready for.

"It's a first year football program," said Johnston. "They have a lot to learn. It's my job to teach them, and just looking forward to it."

"I'm just really excited about it," said junior Victor Robles.  "I'm glad I got to be one of the first people on the team. I can't wait to see how we do."

"They all want to win," said junior Ryan Proudfoot, "and I'm sure that we're all going to do as best as we can to go from scratch to make this a good program."

As the football team progresses, so does the field they will play on. The $2.5 million  football stadium is starting to take shape, with the new artificial turf scheduled to be installed here in a couple of weeks. The field is expected to be ready for the start of the season.
