Gomez Pleads Guilty

"I want you to look at me," said Adam Carrier's mother, Jackie Barr. "You have made my life a living hell. You took something near and dear to my heart that can never be replaced."

Her son , 18-year-old Adam Carrier was killed in 1999. Brutally beat by Hersain Gomez. "No one else was a part in the murder," says Arthur. That was all he had to say to Carrier's family and friends today. But Barr wanted Gomez to know just how deeply this murder destroyed her family.

"You know how I spend my Christmas. I go to the cemetery and light a tree for my son. I go to the cemetery and talk to him," says Barr.

Carrier's best friend, Matt Cox, also took the stand, saying he and Adam were like brothers. "I wake up every morning wondering where my best friend, my brother is, you took my world away from me."

Adam was found beaten to death on the 200 block of Skidmore Lane in July 1999. According to affidavits, Carrier and another victim were looking to buy drugs from Gomez and his five friends when the murder happened.

Today, Adam's family say they are simply grateful his murderer has been brought to justice. "I think he is evil. I don't think you can take a human life and beat someone to the point he beat my son and not be evil." Gomez was recently extradited back to Smith County on the condition with Mexican authorities Gomez would not receive the death penalty for his crime. Gomez is one of 6 defendants in this case. 4 have already been found guilty and sentenced to life. The last defendant, Suzanna Arroyo, fled to Mexico with Gomez. She is still in a Mexican jail.
